Established in 1984, Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA), formerly West Division Sr. High School, is a high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. It is a part of the Milwaukee Public Schools system. It specializes in preparation for a profession in the arts.[1]
Students receive a minimum of two hours in arts study each day. MHSA is the only Wisconsin high school to provide such an increased level of arts education, and one of the few arts-focused high schools in the nation. Focus is given to creative outlets such as dance, writing, theatre, Technical Theatre, visual arts, and music. The school is open for audition from students from the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
General Douglas MacArthur[2] and actor Spencer Tracy[3]attended West Division High School before it was made a specialty arts school. More recently, actress Amy Pietz and Andrew Mrotek, former drummer for The Academy Is... attended MHSA, though not as a music major.
In 2005, the MHSA Artvarks, their Comedy Sportz Improvisational High School League Team took home the State Championship.
